About Cal Davis

Cal Davis Exhibit Booth

About Cal Davis - who he is and why he loves to write books for young people.

Cal Davis created and wrote stories when he was a teenager. He just didn’t like reading at school, because there was always an exam. Reading should be for fun, right? After college, and reading a lot more, he enjoyed several overseas tours in the Air Force, taught middle school, owned his own business, and took a position in the housing industry nearing 30 years for retirement. He has always loved the life God gave him and that He provided salvation through Jesus.

Cal loves reading, writing, and telling stories with purpose for children. He writes picture books for children to be the person they were created to be and to not cave to peer pressure. His award-winning Journeys of Braven Series gives examples of leadership and character-building for teens. Some of his books grant Accelerated Reading (AR) points for primary and middle schoolers.

He enjoys helping other authors in their pursuit of the literary world and still believes “Reading should be fun!”

Look, Look, Look, What I did!

When tiny Penny Pea pretends she can lay eggs like the other hens, her clever trick spirals into chaos, teaching young readers that being true to who you are is far braver than fitting in.

Look, Look, Look What I did

Penny Pea was the smallest chick in her brood. She wanted to be like all the other hens, so she acted like the others.

However, she was not able to lay eggs like the other hens. She tricks everyone into thinking she succeeded but ends up in a world of mess.

This short story teaches children to be the person they were created to be and be proud of who they are right now without giving in to peer pressure.

About the Author

Cal Davis has always believed that reading should be fun.

As a teenager, he loved creating his own stories but found that school exams often took the joy out of the page. He carried that core belief through a life rich with experience: from overseas tours in the Air Force and teaching middle school to owning his own business and a nearly 30-year career in the housing industry.

Now, Cal writes for the kids and teens of today, guided by his faith and a mission to tell stories that are both fun and purposeful. His passion is deeply personal. A graduate of the Institute of Children’s Literature, he writes picture books that help children embrace their individuality. After his grandson was diagnosed with autism, Cal’s research and love led to the creation of the heartfelt book, Through Scotty’s Eyes.

For older readers, his award-winning Journeys of Braven series and the Brothers of Survival novellas are thrilling adventures that weave action and mystery with strength, leadership, and character-building.

Cal is an active member of the Northeast Texas Writer’s Organization and co-established the Golden Quill Writers to train and support upcoming authors. He is married with two awesome children, four incredible grandchildren, and can be reached through his website at www.caldavisauthor.com, email at info@caldavisauthor.com, or Facebook at www.facebook.com/caldavisauthor.
